The EUPA was set up in the year 2000, as aUnitwithin the Ministry of Education, Youth and Employment. On the4thof May 2007, the Unit was established as a legal autonomousAgency.The aim of the EUPA has always been to support Malteseindividualsand entities in availing themselves of funding underthe variouseducational programmes provided by the EuropeanCommission.The general objective of the programmes is to contributetowardsa holistic development of the community as an advancedknowledgesociety, with substantial economic development, more andbetterjobs and greater social cohesion, while ensuring goodprotection ofthe environment for future generations. These aspectscan beachieved through both Lifelong Learning and Youth inActionProgrammes, which give an important contribution to theacquisitionof competencies, experiences and knowledge. Theseprogrammes are akey instrument in providing a varied range ofpeople coming fromdifferent age groups and backgrounds, withopportunities fornon-formal and informal learning with a Europeandimension.
